Formulas for wearing your colours & neutrals

When you first have your colours analysed and come away with your colour swatch fan, it's helpful to see different ways you can wear your colours and neutrals. Here are some handy formulas for combining your colours together in outfits, and the kind of effect they give:

Colours = any shade/tint/tone of actual colour - reds, pinks, oranges, yellows, greens, teals, blues, purples

Neutrals = black, greys, browns, khakis, beiges, taupes, whites, denims, metallics; these have a neutral look and help ground your colours

1 neutral + 1 neutral

This can give off a very classic, elegant, and sophisticated look. You can add a dash of colour with lipstick in your best red/pink/coral.

1 neutral + 1 colour

Creating an outfit using just one neutral and one colour throughout can look incredibly chic and put-together.

2 neutrals + 1 colour

This is an easy and simple formula for everyday wear. Just combine two neutrals of your choice (jeans count) and add a pop of colour.

2 colours + 1 neutral

For an interesting outfit, combine two colours together and ground with a neutral. Try using these colour schemes from the colour wheel for an eye-catching look: analogous (2 colours next to each other), monochromatic (different tones of the same colour), or complementary (2 colours opposite each other).

Multiple colours in an outfit

If you want to really go for it, you can combine multiple colours from your palette to your heart's content. This gives a very fun, creative, playful effect.

1 pattern + 1 solid colour (+ neutrals)

This formula makes for an easy win - simply pair a patterned item in your colours with a solid colour that matches, and add any neutrals.
