Transitioning your wardrobe to a new season

As we finally get into springtime, and summer is (hopefully) just around the corner, many of us will be thinking about switching our wardrobes over to slightly warmer weather attire. Here are my top five tips for transitioning between seasons throughout the year:

  1. Review your clothes from the season you're coming out of before putting away. Are there any pieces you didn't wear? If so, do you know why? Ask yourself if these are still worth keeping for next year, or whether you'd rather just donate/resell it now.

  2. Don't forget to check out any late season sales for anything you need for next time around. If you know you're in need of a new winter coat for example, buying at the end of winter/beginning of spring can save you a lot of money. Same goes for things like summer dresses and swimwear at the end of summer.

  3. Put away anything you know you won't be wearing in this next season - for example, heavy jumpers, winter coats, gloves, etc - so that your wardrobe/drawers only contain clothes that you will be wearing. If you're limited on space in your room, try using vacuum packed storage to store wherever you have space, or create a separate section in your wardrobe/drawers for out of season items.

  4. When bringing out your clothes for the new season, take time to review each piece - do you still like this, does it still fit, is it still in good condition, etc? Try things on and put together outfits to remind yourself of what you could wear - and even take photos to refer back to. Enjoy experimenting with new ways of wearing your clothes, and breathe new life into outfits by changing up the accessories.

  5. Once your wardrobe has all the clothes you're happy to wear in this new season, take some time to identify any gaps you might have. Maybe a patterned skirt that would go with some of your tops would be a great addition, or you're in need of a lightweight jacket in one of your neutrals. Once you've got a list, try and rate these items in terms of how necessary they are and then prioritise your shopping accordingly. Check out my shopping guide checklist to help you win at shopping and make fewer buying mistakes.

And when you come to the end of this season, simply repeat the steps above from the top!
